How to Locate An Expansion Tank on a Water Heater

Nearly all people are familiar with the significance of the boiler expansion tanks to run the water heating system in a safe mode.  In fact, such tanks are truly required, because most of people are using the water heaters in these days. Almost everyone knows the actual function of this type of tanks. It helps the water heating system to control the pressure as well as volume of the water. If someone does not have such expansion tank in the water heater, then certainly an accident may occur there. Now, the main part of the expansion tanks is its location. It should be located at the appropriate place. In fact, you can place the expansion tank between the back flow prevention device and the water heater.

At first, you need to keep in mind to turn off the electricity during placing the expansion tank. If you use a gas water heating system, then you need to switch off it by turning over the switch to the off position. After performing that, never fail to remember to fix a piece of tape around the particular area of the switch. It should be done as it should be, or else, the switch may turn on accidentally. If it happens, then it could cause a sever mishap. In fact, the Amtrol tanks are quite safe regarding that issue. After that, you need to cut the gas heating system at the point of gas supply valve. You have to attach a garden pipe at the base of the tank to a drain. Then, run the pipe to a yard or a closer floor drain. After that, flip the valve to the up position on the side of the tank, and turn off the supply valve of cold water placed at the top of the tank.

Now, you need to open the tap on the drain valve, and then keep it as it is. You can close the drain valve as soon as the water stops running out of the garden pipe. Then, release the pipe of cold water from the inlet on the tank with an enough blow. Then, calculate size and cut a ‘T’ fitting to go between check valve or the cold water supply and the cold water inlet. Make use of a pipe cutter or hacksaw to cut the ends of the pipe. Then, use any rough edges with sandpaper or file. You may have to install extra couplings if you wish to connect the ‘T’ fitting between the inlet and tank. After that, attach the water heating expansion valve at the top of the ‘T’ fitting. Add a hanger above the ‘T’ fitting and fix a pump to the expansion tank. Now, turn on the supply of cold water and let the tank to fulfill and bring back the gas or power to the water heating system.
